The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health says the number of influenza cases requiring hospitalization increased over the last reporting period.
Forty-seven people were admitted to hospital during the two-week period ending March 23rd compared to 38 over the previous two weeks. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admissions increased to twelve from only four over the same period. One influenza-related death occurred between March 10th and 23rd. The increase is being attributed to influenza Type B, which is typical for this time of year. During the entire flu season, there have been 6,793 positive lab cases—nearly 81 per cent which were influenza Type A.
The number of COVID hospitalizations declined to 42 over the two-week period from March 10th to 23rd compared to 69 for the previous two weeks. COVID ICU admissions also went from 8 down to 3. There were no COVID-related deaths over the two-week time frame.
