Postmedia Calgary won two honours Thursday in the prestigious Global Media Awards, presented by the International News Media Association (INMA.)
A first-place honour arrived in the best video category for photojournalist/videographer Mike Drew.

Drew received the top award for his weekly On the Road feature, in which he explores the natural wonders of southern Alberta. Other finalists in the video category represented news organizations in Austria, Brazil and the United States, including the Boston Globe. Drew previously won this video category two years ago.

Postmedia Calgary has garnered seven honours in the category in the past eight years.

Also Thursday, Postmedia Calgary deputy editor Monica Zurowski won a finalist award in the “best use of social media” category. She used three social platforms to retell and refresh the story of the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary and area on the Games’ 35th anniversary.
Other finalists in the same category represented news organizations in the United States, Australia, India and Brazil.
In total, Postmedia Calgary has received 20 finalist nominations and wins in the Global Media Awards since 2010. Only two other Canadian news organizations were recognized by INMA this year.
“This class of finalists represent the best in the business of news, and we are proud to champion the mission of outstanding journalism,” said Earl J. Wilkinson, executive director and CEO of INMA.
INMA has more than 21,000 members in 94 countries. More than 770 entries were received this year for the Global Media Awards, which were presented in London, England, on Thursday.
