Evan Bouchard scored twice and added an assist, Leon Draisaitl had four assists and the Edmonton Oilers scored all five of their goals in the second period to beat the Anaheim Ducks 5-2 on Wednesday night at Honda Center.
Connor McDavid had a goal and two assists for Edmonton (3-0-1), which opened a three-game California trip. Kasperi Kapanen and Vasily Podkolzin also scored, and Devon Levi made 29 saves.
Beckett Sennecke scored twice on the power play in the first period for Anaheim (2-1-0), and Leo Carlsson had two assists. Lukas Dostal stopped 12 shots through two periods before Ville Husso replaced him for the third.
The Oilers trailed 2-0 after one period before Bouchard changed the game 11 seconds into the second with a slap shot from the right point. Kapanen tied it on a power-play one-timer at 6:30, the 100th goal of his NHL career.
Bouchard put Edmonton ahead at 14:12 with another slap shot from above the circles. Podkolzin added a breakaway goal off a Draisaitl pass at 16:49, and McDavid made it 5-2 with 52 seconds left in the period during four-on-four play.
“That’s a good team over there, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here,” Draisaitl said of the Ducks.
Bouchard has 10 points in four games, joining Pat Stapleton, Harry Cameron, Morgan Rielly and Bobby Orr as the only NHL defencemen to reach 10 points in four games or fewer, according to the NHL. His six goals lead the league, and his 82 career goals are the third most by a defenceman in Oilers history.
McDavid leads the NHL with 12 points, three goals and nine assists. Edmonton leads the league at 5.5 goals per game.
For Anaheim, Carlsson became the first player in franchise history to open a season with three straight multi-point games. Ducks coach Joel Quenneville said his team “watched a lot” in the middle of the second period.
