Air Canada began nonstop flights from Toronto to Tenerife in Spain’s Canary Islands on Oct. 25, the first scheduled service between North America and the island, using its new Airbus A321XLR.
Air Data News reported that Toronto service starts Oct. 25 with two weekly flights, and that Montreal service follows on Oct. 31 with one weekly flight. Airways Magazine reported the Tenerife flights run from late October to late April.
The schedule published by Air Data News lists AC954 leaving Toronto at 8:35 p.m. and arriving in Tenerife at 9 a.m. the next day, with AC955 returning from Tenerife at 10:55 a.m. and landing in Toronto at 2:50 p.m. From Montreal, AC956 leaves at 9 p.m. and arrives at 9 a.m., and AC957 leaves Tenerife at 10:55 a.m. and arrives at 2:10 p.m.
The A321XLR is a long-range narrow-body jet with a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles, according to Air Data News. Air Canada’s configuration seats 182 passengers, including 14 lie-flat business-class seats. Airways Magazine reported that Air Canada’s first A321XLR entered service in February 2026. Air Data News said the airline has ordered 30 of the aircraft and expects 11 deliveries in 2026.
Mark Galardo, Air Canada’s executive vice-president and chief commercial officer and president of cargo, said the route reflects the aircraft’s capabilities. “We are further cementing Air Canada’s global network as one of the most far-reaching from the North American continent,” Galardo said when the route was announced, according to Airways Magazine. He also described Tenerife as offering travellers “the only non-stop service from North America” to the island.
Interest in the new service surfaced in Canada on Sunday. A search for Air Canada’s A321XLR and the Canary Islands drew more than 2,000 searches on Google Trends Canada, up 700 per cent.
The flights were announced in April. Some travel reports have given differing figures for how often the Montreal route will operate, and the airline’s schedule may change during the season. Travellers should check Air Canada for current flight times and frequencies.
