AMD Big Navi Radeon 6000 With 16GB Allegedly Priced To Aggressively Undercut RTX 3080
|
- GeForce RTX 3090 (10,496 CUDA cores, 24GB GDDR6X): $1,499
- GeForce RTX 3080 (8,704 CUDA cores, 10GB GDDR6X): $699
- GeForce RTX 3070 (5,888 CUDA cores, 8GB GDDR6): $499
It is an enticing lineup for sure, with better-than-expected specifications (more CUDA cores than rumors had previously indicated) at somewhat pleasantly surprising price points. Sure, the GeForce RTX 3090 is uber-expensive at $1,499, but that is essentially this generation’s RTX Titan. As far as NVIDIA is concerned, the GeForce RTX 3080 is its flagship consumer card, and at $699, it’s probably in the neighborhood of what the next-gen consoles will cost (give or take).
How will pricing shake out? According to Twitter user @coreteks (who also posts technology analysis videos on YouTube), there will be a version of Big Navi with 16GB of memory priced at $549. If true, the part will have more memory (+6GB) and cost less (-$150) than the GeForce RTX 3080.
The initial tweet stated there would also be an 8GB model priced at $499, but @coreteks walked that back in a follow-up post, saying something got lost (from their source) in translation.
Part of what’s interesting is that the source claims AMD initially wanted to charge $599 for its Radeon RX 6000 series part (we presume it will be dubbed the Radeon RX 6000 series, anyway). But after NVIDIA rolled out is Ampere GPUs at surprising price points, AMD decided to shave a few bucks off its upcoming 16GB model, as the story goes.
“The prices that we originally put out, we waited to see what they put out, and then we made the appropriate move—not only to de-position their Super series, but also to logjam their 2060 and 2070. Because we knew that they were having slower success and we wanted to do a double jebait, not only block their Super strategy, but also slow down the 2060 and 2070,” AMD’s VP and General Manager of the Radeon Business Unit, Scott Herkelman, told us during a podcast last year.
On the flip side, could NVIDIA also be preparing a counter move? The gap between the $699 GeForce RTX 3080 and $1,499 RTX Titan GeForce RTX 3090 is pretty big, leaving room for a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. Likewise, NVIDIA could squeeze a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti into the $599 spot, or even at $549, if it wanted to.
Stay tuned folks, things are about to get very interesting.

Important updates regarding the Bob-Birnie Arena
|
The City of Pointe-Claire would like to inform you that the Bob-Birnie arena will be closed for its annual maintenance as of Monday, April 29. The Annex rink will reopen to the public on Monday, May 13, and the arena’s Main rink will be accessible as of Monday, June 3.
Public skating will resume on May 13, and the summer public activities programming will begin on June 3 when both rinks have reopened to the public.
In addition to the annual maintenance of the facility, two renovation projects are also scheduled to start at the same time:
Installation of new sound systems
The City will be replacing its current sound systems in both the Main rink and Annex rink, to offer arena visitors a better overall experience, whether watching from the stands or participating in on-ice activities. This project is expected to be conducted throughout the month of May.
Renovation of locker rooms in the Main Rink
The City will also be renovating the five locker rooms located in the Main rink, to bring up to date the amenities currently available to participants. These renovations are expected to begin in early May and will be completed by mid-August.

Surprise Apple Event Hints at First New iPads in Years – CNET
We haven’t seen a new iPad in years, but Apple seems likely to change that in just a few weeks. All signs point to the release of new iPad models in the first week of May.
This morning, I received an email invite for a virtual Apple event, scheduled for May 7 at 7 a.m. PT (10 a.m. ET). The invite, which says “Let Loose,” shows a drawing of a hand holding an Apple Pencil. Considering the iPad is the only device that uses the Pencil — that doesn’t leave much to the imagination.
Apple’s been expected to release new OLED-screened iPad Pros with newly designed Pencils and Magic Keyboard cases. New iPad Airs are also expected, including a larger-screened 12.9-inch model. Apple’s iPad Air lineup tends to be slightly redesigned versions of previous-model iPad Pros, so just look to the M2 iPad Pro lineup for a sense of what the next Airs could be. These would be the first new iPads since the iPad Pro M2 model arrived in late 2022.
