Our smart plug picks
No. 1, best for most households: Kasa Smart Plug Mini HS103P4. This four-pack from TP-Link’s Kasa line is the one most Canadians buy, with 137,514 ratings averaging 4.6 stars on the listing. The plugs need a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, work with Alexa and Google Assistant, and the listing says they are UL certified. You set schedules and countdown timers in the Kasa app. The listing shows no Apple Home support. The pack is sold and shipped by Amazon.ca at $44.99.

No. 2, best for easy setup: Govee Smart Plug H5083. Govee’s four-pack pairs over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, which the listing says is more stable than plugs that rely on Wi-Fi alone. It is rated 10 A and 1,100 W, so it suits lamps, fans and small appliances rather than space heaters. It works with Alexa and Google Assistant through the Govee Home app and has 13,220 ratings averaging 4.5 stars. The listing is sold by Govee CA and shipped from Amazon at $42.99. The 1,100 W limit is the main thing to check before you plug in anything that heats.

No. 3, best budget pick for bigger loads: EIGHTREE 15A Smart Plug. At $35.99 for four, this is the cheapest pack on our list. The listing describes a 15 A rating aimed at heavier appliances, Bluetooth-assisted setup before it switches to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, flame-retardant housing, child safety shutters and overload protection, with FCC and ETL certification. It has 11,611 ratings averaging 4.4 stars and is sold by Eightree CA, shipped from Amazon. Even at 15 A, check the label on any heater or air conditioner and keep it within the plug’s rating.

No. 4, best for crowded outlets: Govee Dual Smart Plug. Each unit packs two separately controlled plugs side by side so it covers just one outlet, which helps behind a TV stand or desk. The four-pack is $53.99 against a list price of $59.99, with 6,004 ratings averaging 4.6 stars, and works over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with Alexa and Google Assistant. It is sold by Govee CA and shipped from Amazon. It costs more per outlet than the single-plug packs, so buy it only if space is the problem.

No. 5, best for Apple Home and energy tracking: meross Matter Smart Plug. Matter is the cross-brand smart home standard, and the listing says this plug works with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and Samsung SmartThings. It also has a built-in power meter that tracks consumption in the meross app. Apple users need a home hub such as an Apple TV or HomePod, and the listing notes the Tuya app on Android does not support Matter. The four-pack is $69.99, with 1,116 ratings averaging 4.3 stars, sold by Meross and shipped from Amazon. It has the smallest review base of the four-packs, so expect fewer long-term owner reports.

No. 6, best outdoors: Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi Outdoor Plug D215O-1RE. Built for string lights, inflatables and landscape lighting, this plug is rated IP65, supports Matter, and the listing gives an operating range of -20 F to 122 F, or about -29 C to 50 C, which covers most Canadian winters outside the far north. A built-in light sensor can switch lights on at dusk. It has 178 ratings averaging 4.7 stars, so the sample is small, and it costs $44.25 for a single plug. Amazon.ca sells and ships it. See our outdoor Christmas lights guide for what to plug into it.

How do you choose a smart plug in Canada?
Start with the load. Canadian outlets are 120 V, and most mini plugs are rated 10 A to 15 A, so check the wattage on anything that heats, such as a space heater or kettle, and stay inside the rating on the plug. For anything that runs unattended, look for a recognized safety mark; the Electrical Safety Authority in Ontario publishes general electrical safety guidance for consumers. Next, check your network: most plugs here need 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, so make sure your router offers it. Finally, match your assistant. Alexa and Google Assistant work with all six picks, while Apple Home needs a Matter plug such as the meross or the Leviton, explained at the Connectivity Standards Alliance.
When is the best time to buy smart plugs in Canada?
Smart plugs often go on sale around Black Friday, which falls on Nov. 27 this year, and during Amazon’s other big sales events. We have not seen a guaranteed discount, so use the price you see on the listing. Multipacks usually cost less per plug than single units, and our Amazon Picks Canada hub collects the other guides we have published.
Who should skip a smart plug?
Skip them for space heaters and other high-wattage devices unless the plug is rated for the load, and skip them if your router is 5 GHz only. Renters, small apartments and anyone adding timers to lamps will get the most from them. If your network is the weak link, see our guides to the best mesh Wi-Fi systems and the best webcams for video calls.
How we chose. On Oct. 27, 2026, we searched Amazon.ca for Wi-Fi and Matter smart plugs, kept listings rated 4.2 stars or higher, and favoured those with thousands of ratings, with the exception of the newer Matter and outdoor plugs. We included only listings sold by Amazon.ca or by the brand itself and shipped from Amazon. Specifications come from the listings. We did not test any plug.
Frequently asked questions
Do smart plugs work without Wi-Fi?
Most plugs here need a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network for scheduling and voice control. Govee plugs can be set up over Bluetooth, but remote control and voice assistants still depend on Wi-Fi.
Which smart plugs work with Apple Home?
The listings say the meross Matter plug and the Leviton Decora outdoor plug support Matter and work with Apple Home. Apple Home users also need a home hub such as an Apple TV or HomePod.
Can you use a smart plug outside in Canada?
Only a plug made for it. The Leviton Decora outdoor plug is listed as IP65 with an operating range of about -29 C to 50 C. Indoor plugs should not be used outdoors.
