Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc., the Laval-based convenience store operator co-founded by Canadian billionaire Alain Bouchard, reported net earnings of US$828.5 million for the first quarter of its 2027 fiscal year, up from US$782.5 million in the same quarter a year earlier, according to results the company released after the close of the Toronto Stock Exchange on Sept. 1, 2026.
Diluted earnings per share came in at US90 cents, compared with US82 cents a year earlier, the company said in its quarterly release. The Globe and Mail reported the profit figure the following day.
Total revenue for the 12-week period ended July 19 was US$21.7 billion, up 25.1 per cent from the corresponding quarter of fiscal 2026, according to the company’s release. Merchandise and service revenues, the segment that excludes fuel, totalled US$4.9 billion, an increase of 4.1 per cent. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization were US$1.8 billion, up US$112.3 million or 6.7 per cent year over year, the company said.
The regional breakdown was uneven. Couche-Tard reported that same-store merchandise revenues rose 1.7 per cent in the United States and 1.2 per cent in Europe and other regions, while remaining stable in Canada, the company’s home market. The company described the U.S. figure as its fifth consecutive quarter of positive same-store merchandise growth, attributing the momentum to food, energy drinks and other nicotine products.
The results were discussed on a conference call held Sept. 2 with president and chief executive officer Alex Miller and chief financial officer Filipe Da Silva, according to the company’s earnings advisory issued Aug. 6.
Bouchard co-founded Couche-Tard with a single Quebec shop in 1980 and stepped down as president and chief executive officer in September 2014. He remains executive chairman. Forbes says Bouchard held 13.5 per cent of the company as of its 2026 proxy filing, and ranks him No. 461 on its 2026 World’s Billionaires List. Forbes’ last published dollar figure for Bouchard that this index has confirmed is US$6.6 billion, from the 2025 Forbes Billionaires List as reported by BNN Bloomberg in April 2025, down from US$8 billion on the 2024 list. Because Bouchard’s fortune is tied almost entirely to a publicly traded holding, third-party trackers carry materially different valuations, and this index does not publish an estimate of its own.
Couche-Tard operates more than 17,000 owned or franchised stores worldwide, including the Circle K banner, according to Forbes’ company profile.
