Nico Paz scored twice as Como beat Manchester United 4-1 in the UEFA Champions League at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia in Como, Italy, on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026.
Paz opened the scoring in the second minute, giving the Serie A club an early lead over the three-time European champion.
Como pulled away after halftime. Tasos Douvikas doubled the lead in the 49th minute, Paz added his second goal in the 57th and defender Jacobo Ramón made it 4-0 in the 76th.
Joshua Zirkzee, who came on as a substitute, scored United’s only goal in the first minute of stoppage time.
UEFA named Paz the player of the match. German referee Sven Jablonski took charge in front of 10,875 fans at the lakeside stadium, according to UEFA. No player was sent off.
United started a lineup that included Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, according to the lineups published by UEFA. Zirkzee and Amad Diallo were among the substitutes United brought on, according to ESPN.
The loss is a setback for a club that clinched its return to the Champions League in May. On the same night, Arsenal needed a late goal from Declan Rice to draw 2-2 at Bayern Munich, a day after Liverpool beat Villarreal 4-3 at Anfield.
Como moved to six points from two wins and a loss and sits ninth in the 36-team league-phase table, according to UEFA’s standings. United has one win and two losses and is tied for 20th with three points.
The top eight clubs after the eight-match league phase advance directly to the round of 16. Teams finishing ninth to 24th go into a knockout playoff round, and the bottom 12 are eliminated.
United returns to Champions League play at home against Roma on Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. ET (1 p.m. MT). Como visits Lens on Nov. 4 at the same time.
