Décathlon Canada is recalling 3,218 Hamax Buddy child bicycle seats because a textile label on the harness strap can detach and pose a choking hazard, Health Canada said Oct. 26.
The recall covers Hamax Buddy seats with reference numbers 4091054 and 8591602. The seat is designed for bicycles without a rear luggage rack, including some mountain and hybrid bikes.
The seats were sold from January 2022 to August 2026, according to the recall notice. They were made in Norway by Hamax AS and distributed in Canada by Décathlon Canada Inc. of Montreal.
As of Oct. 20, the company had received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.
Unlike many recalls, owners do not need to return the seat. Health Canada said consumers should stop using it, cut the textile label off the harness strap and pull the label out completely. Once the label is removed, the seat can be used as intended.
Owners with questions can call Décathlon at 1-844-533-3322, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., or email [email protected].
Recalled products cannot be sold, redistributed or given away in Canada. Health or safety incidents can be reported through Health Canada’s Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
The notice is posted on the Government of Canada Recalls and Safety Alerts site as recall RA-82849.
