Montreal-born Formula One driver Lance Stroll will stay with Aston Martin for the 2027 season after the team confirmed an unchanged line-up on Tuesday, keeping the 27-year-old alongside two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.
The extension means 2027 will be Stroll’s ninth season with the Silverstone-based team and his fifth as Alonso’s teammate, according to Formula1.com and Sky Sports. Formula1.com noted the pair have 644 race starts between them, making them the most experienced driver pairing on the grid. The length of Stroll’s new contract was not disclosed.
“I’m very happy to continue with Aston Martin Aramco for the long term. I’ve been on this journey since the beginning and I believe we have the resources and the people to become a winning team,” Stroll said in the team’s announcement, as quoted by Formula1.com.
Stroll’s father, Lawrence Stroll, is the team’s executive chairman and co-owner. “Lance and Fernando have been a crucial part of our journey and we are very pleased to confirm that they will continue with us into the next chapter for the team,” the elder Stroll said, according to Formula1.com.
Alonso, who turns 46 in July 2027, will start a record 24th Formula One season, Sky Sports reported. “I’m committed for the long term with this team and to helping us succeed,” Alonso said.
