Media advisory. The following was issued by the Québécoises musulmanes tannées collective ahead of its Oct. 5, 2026, sit-in and is published as received. Canada News Media did not write or edit it.
MONTREAL, Oct. 5, 2026 – After 18 consecutive Mondays of mobilization since June, the Québécoises musulmanes tannées collective will gather once again on Monday, October 5, for a sit-in outside the office of Quebec’s interim premier, Christine Fréchette.
For several months, Muslim women directly affected by Laws 21, 94 and 9 have gathered in this public space every week to denounce the exclusion they face in professional, educational and civic life, and to assert their right to participate fully in Quebec society.
Taking place on Quebec election day, this 18th sit-in will mark the conclusion of this stage of the collective’s mobilization, but not the end of the movement. The collective intends to continue its actions in other forms during the next political cycle.
Members of the collective who are directly affected by these laws will be available on site for media interviews.
