Male arrested on weapons trafficking charges
A Guelph male faces charges including weapons trafficking as part of an ongoing investigation into a shooting last fall outside a licensed establishment.
Approximately 2:20 a.m. October 16, 2021, police responded for gunshots in the parking lot of a business on Silvercreek Parkway South. No victims were located with gunshot injuries. A firearm was seized as a result of this investigation.
A 30-year-old Guelph male was arrested later that day for several assault and weapons charges.
While investigating the shooting, officers discovered evidence from a cell phone of a second male previously thought to be unrelated to the shooting, indicating that male was in possession of the same firearm prior to the shooting. Further evidence was also discovered which indicates that the second male had also trafficked the firearm that was used in the shooting prior to the shooting taking place.
The second male, a 23-year-old from Guelph, was arrested downtown Sunday afternoon. He is facing several charges including weapons trafficking, possessing weapons for the purpose of trafficking and unauthorized possession of a firearm. He will appear in a Guelph court August 30, 2022.
Driver sought in hit and run
The Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit is trying to identify a driver involved in a hit and run with a cyclist last month.
Approximately 10:20 p.m. June 23, a teenaged male was riding his bike in the area of Edinburgh Road South and Municipal Street when he was struck by what is believed to be a grey Volkswagen. The car failed to stop and was last seen northbound on Edinburgh Road.
The cyclist reported no injuries but his bicycle was damaged.

Male arrested for damaging camera
A Guelph male was arrested Wednesday after he was caught on camera destroying a surveillance camera outside a business.
Approximately 2 a.m. July 15, the male was behind a business in the area of Wellington Street East and Wyndham Street South when he used a metal object to smash a camera, causing approximately $500 in damage. The incident was captured on video.
A 38-year-old Guelph male was located downtown on Wednesday and arrested for mischief under $5,000. He will appear in a Guelph court October 14, 2022.
