“We have not seen a surge in numbers related to that event but we will continue to obviously monitor any new reported case for the next little while.”
Yet, given the incubation period for the virus can be up to two weeks, Summers reiterated the health unit’s advice to anyone who attended the march to monitor closely for symptoms and limit their interactions with others as much as possible.
The latest COVID-19 death in the area was reported Friday, and it involved a woman in her 90s living in a retirement home.
As of Sunday, only two outbreaks remained active at long-term care homes in London. An outbreak is declared when there’s a single confirmed case within a facility.
“When we look over the weekly trends, we continue to see community COVID-19 transmission. However, I think we are increasingly seeing control of the virus,” Summers said.
Meanwhile, Ontario reported 197 new cases of COVID-19 and 12 new deaths related to the virus on Sunday.
The total number of confirmed cases provincwide is 32,189, only about 5,000 of which are not yet “resolved.” There have been 2,519 deaths in Ontario.
