Ontario could face pressure from Michigan and other Great Lakes states to reopen its economy early.
“That’s going to be one of the biggest challenges for our economy,” Laurie Tannous, vice-president of government and industry relations at customs broker and logistics company Farrow and a special advisor at the University of Windsor’s Cross-Border Institute, said during a discussion of the pandemic’s impact on cross-border trade Thursday.

“We’re going to get pulled if we’re not proactive in making our own decisions and taking the right steps,” she said.
The governors of seven Great Lakes states — Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Kentucky — have formed a coalition to coordinate reopening their economies, said Bill Anderson, director of the Cross-Border Institute.
“In Michigan they’re talking about May 4 for (reopening) a lot of things,” said Anderson. “I do not get the impression Ontario is talking about May 4.
