Premier François Legault Tuesday outlined a plan to gradually get sections of the province’s shut-down economy going again in the month of May following the devastating effects of COVID-19.

“Our challenge is to gradually re-start the economy without re-starting the pandemic,” Legault said at his Tuesday briefing. “It’s important to keep control.”
Legault announced three sets of reopenings.
Retail outlets not in shopping malls or with doors leading out of malls will be allowed to open as of May 4 outside the greater Montreal region and as of May 11 for Montreal. Shopping malls, however, will remain closed for the foreseeable future.
All construction projects on roads and infrastructures will re-start May 11. The same date goes for the manufacturing sector, but with limits on the numbers of workers allowed on the floor.
On hand for the announcement, Economic Development Minister Pierre Fitzgibbon estimated 1.2 million Quebecers have lost their jobs since the pandemic started six weeks ago.
