The fourth season of Apple TV’s Ted Lasso ended on Oct. 7, 2026, with a 10th episode titled “Being Alive,” and Apple has not announced a fifth season.

The finale arrived after a 10-episode run that began on Aug. 5, according to The National, and early critical reaction has been cool. AV Club critic Saloni Gajjar gave the episode a C-.
“Ted Lasso is no longer a coherent TV dramedy,” Gajjar wrote in her review of the finale, published Oct. 7. She also wrote that “season four has felt unmoored throughout,” while calling it an improvement on season three.
Spoilers for the finale follow.
The episode takes place after the wake for the character Mae. A recap by Alise Chaffins on Substack describes the team trading memories of her at the Crown & Anchor, and says Roy Kent receives a call offering him the head coaching job at Chelsea.
According to AV Club, Roy accepts the Chelsea job with encouragement from his girlfriend. The review also reports that Rebecca Welton and Leslie Higgins expose Zelda Southport’s secret share purchases at a shareholder meeting, and that Mae left her shares to Rebecca, giving her the upper hand. The Zelda thread had been a mystery in earlier episodes, with a CinemaBlend writer speculating in September that the character was the hidden villain.
AV Club said Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis, steps down to assistant coach so he can spend more time with his son, Henry, and that Alice Chilton is promoted. It also said Rebecca proposes to her long-distance boyfriend, Matthijs. Those plot points were reported by AV Club only, and Canada News Media has not independently confirmed them.
The series follows Lasso, an American football coach hired to manage the English club AFC Richmond. This season he coaches the club’s newly formed second-division women’s team, the Lady Greyhounds, The National reported.
The show was seemingly meant to end after three seasons, but Apple renewed it for a fourth in March 2025, according to The National. In the season three finale, Richmond finished second in the Premier League, narrowly behind Manchester City.
On the question of a fifth season, entertainment site Meaww reported on Sept. 18 that Apple had not given the show an official renewal and that discussions were reportedly ongoing. Meaww cited Apple TV executive Matt Cherniss, who told Deadline in July that Sudeikis was still working on season four and looking ahead. “I don’t think we’ve gotten started on it yet,” Cherniss said, according to Meaww.
Canada News Media found no announcement of a fifth season from Apple as of Oct. 8. The National describes the series as Emmy-winning and says all four seasons are on Apple TV. The show has also found an audience in Canadian classrooms: a Nova Scotia university course on its philosophies was covered by Canada News Media in April 2025.
Apple has not said when it will decide on the show’s future. Viewers will be watching for any announcement tied to the next awards season, which Cherniss raised in his July remarks, Meaww reported.
