With winter weeks away in much of Canada, now is the time to replace a cracked blade or buy a first shovel for a new home. Amazon.ca lists thousands of snow shovels, so we looked at five with real customer ratings, from a basic ergonomic shovel to a battery-powered model for bigger driveways. Prices below were accurate on Oct. 27, 2026, and may change.

Snow Joe Edge SJEG24 2-in-1 snow pusher and ice chopper

A good fit for people with flat driveways, decks and walkways who would rather push snow than lift it. It sells for $57.99 and has a 4.2-star rating from about 19,000 ratings on Amazon.ca.

• 24-inch poly blade pusher
• 5-inch steel ice chopper built in
• Aluminum wear strip on the blade edge
• D-shaped grip and coated steel tube handle

The large number of ratings is its main selling point. We could not read individual review text on the listing, so we cannot report common complaints. A pusher works best on light to moderate snowfall and is less suited to deep, heavy drifts.

Amazon Basics ergonomic dual-handle snow shovel

Aimed at shoppers who want to reduce strain on their back. The listing says the second handle redistributes weight when lifting. It costs $42.44 and is rated 3.9 stars from 170 ratings, the lowest score of our five, so expect a budget tool.

• 127 cm long with a dual-handle design
• Polymer head with aluminum wear strips
• D-grip handle
• Listed for snow, sand, mud and mulch

Review text was not readable on the listing, but the sub-4-star average suggests some buyers were not fully satisfied.

Suncast SC3850 ergonomic snow shovel

A step up in price at $104.11, with a 4.5-star rating from 75 ratings. The listing describes an ergonomic bent handle with a strip grip, aimed at people who shovel by hand regularly.

• 18-inch wide by 12-inch high blade
• 52.5-inch length
• Graphite gray blade with black handle
• Bent ergonomic handle, 1-1/8 inch diameter

The price is the obvious trade-off, since it costs more than twice the Amazon Basics shovel. Review text was not readable on the listing.

VOLTASK 24V cordless snow shovel

For people with longer driveways or bad backs who want a battery-powered option. It is priced at $171.49 (listed as $179.99 before the discount), rated 4.3 stars from about 2,100 ratings, and Amazon.ca shows more than 1,000 bought in the past month.

• 13-inch clearing width
• 24V, 4 Ah battery and quick charger included
• Weighs 9.3 pounds, according to the listing
• Directional plate and adjustable front handle

A 13-inch cut is narrow compared with a full snow blower, so it suits light snowfalls. Review text was not readable on the listing.

AstroAI 38.4-inch folding snow shovel for cars

Not a driveway tool, but a low-cost item to keep in a trunk in case of getting stuck. It sells for $35.99 (listed at $39.99 before the discount), with a 4.1-star rating from 511 ratings and more than 100 bought in the past month.

• Folding and extendable design
• Aluminum handle and blade, per the listing title
• Reinforced iron hinge
• Marketed for cars, camping and emergencies

A folding hinge is the usual weak point on tools like this, so treat it as an emergency shovel rather than your main one. Review text was not readable on the listing.
