Environment Canada issued a yellow advisory for dense fog across Toronto and much of the Greater Toronto Area on Thursday morning, warning of near-zero visibility.
The advisory, updated at 8:05 a.m. EDT, covers the City of Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Caledon, Halton Hills, Milton, Burlington, Oakville and northern York Region. The weather agency rates the impact as moderate and its forecast confidence as high.
Environment Canada said areas of dense fog will affect the region this morning and that travel will likely be hazardous in some locations. Visibility can drop suddenly, it said, and drivers should allow extra time to reach their destinations. An earlier version of the advisory for southwestern Ontario singled out fog-prone stretches along highways 401 and 402.
The advisory is set to expire around noon EDT. Environment Canada asks people to keep monitoring its alerts and forecasts and to report severe weather by posting on social media with the hashtag #ONStorm or by emailing [email protected].
Earlier in the week, the weather agency issued a frost advisory for Toronto, Mississauga and Oakville. Overnight, a special weather statement for heavy rainfall around London, Ont., and a squall warning for parts of northern Ontario have since ended, according to Environment Canada.
The official alert is posted on Environment Canada’s weather site.
