Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for southern Howe Sound, including Bowen Island, where northerly winds of 70 km/h, gusting to 90, are expected to begin late Saturday evening.
The agency said the winds will ease Sunday morning as the low weakens, but conditions will stay blustery into the afternoon. The warning covers the southern sections of Howe Sound, according to Environment Canada’s public alerts.
Forecasters said a low-pressure system tracking south, west of Vancouver Island, combined with a ridge of high pressure over the B.C. interior, will push strong outflow winds through the sound.
“Local utility outages are possible. Driving conditions will likely be difficult. There is a risk of injury due to flying or falling debris,” the warning said. The agency urged people to secure loose objects.
The same weather pattern is already bringing gusts of up to 110 km/h to exposed coastal areas of northern Vancouver Island on Saturday. Our Canada winter forecast for 2026-27 has the seasonal outlook for each region. Power customers can report outages to BC Hydro, and drivers can check conditions on DriveBC.
Environment Canada asks people to report severe weather by email to [email protected] or on social media with the hashtag #BCStorm.
