Longer nights are back, and Canadians are turning bedroom walls and ceilings into movie screens. The gadget doing a lot of that work right now is a palm-sized smart projector from Magcubic. As of Oct. 2, 2026, it sits at No. 1 in Television Projectors and No. 24 across all of Electronics on Amazon.ca’s best-seller lists, with more than 9,600 customer ratings behind it. Magcubic’s mini projectors have also been a fixture of social media shopping hauls, and Spanish tech outlet Hipertextual has described the brand’s HY300 model as one of TikTok’s most viral products.
We did not buy or test this projector ourselves. This review is built from the live Amazon.ca listing, its published specs and what verified buyers are actually saying.

Why buyers are choosing it
It replaces a streaming stick. The projector runs its own apps, so you can start a show without plugging in a separate device. One buyer called the built-in apps a “massive convenience for quick streaming.”
Setup is fast. Easy setup is the most common theme in the reviews. Several buyers single out the auto keystone, which straightens the image automatically when the projector is tilted. Amazon’s own summary of reviews says customers find it “incredibly easy to setup and very easy to use.”
The ceiling trick. The 180-degree stand lets you aim the picture straight up. Reviewers mention projecting onto walls or even the ceiling, and one says it makes it “super easy” to put movies on the bedroom ceiling.
It is cheap enough to gamble on. At $69.99, it is an impulse-level price for a smart projector. Reviewers repeatedly describe it as great value for the price.
The honest caveats
This is a budget projector, and the listing itself is upfront about it. At 200 ANSI lumens, it is meant for dark rooms. Magcubic’s own listing says curtains should be drawn for daytime use, and one detailed buyer review says the picture is “very difficult to see” in daylight unless blinds are closed.
That same buyer reported the Android interface became laggy after more than two hours of use. Another reviewer who was otherwise impressed said the built-in speaker is “quite weak,” though it pairs easily with a Bluetooth speaker. Amazon’s review summary also notes mixed opinions on fan noise. And remember, the “4K” on the box means it can play 4K files, not display them at 4K.
Who should buy it
Buy it if you want a low-cost way to do movie nights in a bedroom, dorm or basement, a kids’ sleepover screen, or a projector for the cottage that you will not worry about. Skip it if you want a bright, sharp living-room TV replacement. For that, you will need to spend considerably more.
With Halloween movie season and long fall evenings ahead, it is easy to see why this one is climbing the charts.
