Thousands stolen in break and enters
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after three businesses were entered and thousands of dollars in equipment stolen this week.
Shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday, officers were called to a commercial building on Willow Road near Silvercreek Parkway North. It is believed the suspect or suspects entered through a rear door and then forced entry into several units between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday.
More than $2,500 worth of computers and other equipment was reported stolen from one business, while a second reported damage to a door frame and locking mechanism but no apparent theft.
Later in the day Thursday, staff of a medical office in the same office complex called to report their business had also been entered. An interior window was smashed to gain entry and approximately $10,000 worth of specialized equipment was stolen.
The incidents remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Constable Abdullah Eidokheil at 519-824-1212, ext. 7415, email him at [email protected], leave an anonymous message for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.
Truck stolen after GPS tracker found
A pickup was stolen from a south-end residence early Friday, hours after the owner discovered a GPS tracker had been attached to it.
The owner called police at 4:45 a.m. Friday to report his grey 2018 Ford F-150 had been stolen from his driveway in the area of Gordon Street and Edinburgh Road South. The male advised he had been checking the vehicle periodically through the night after finding an Apple AirTag GPS device on the truck the night before.
Other police services in Ontario have reported similar vehicle thefts recently. Thieves attach the small tracking devices to high-end vehicles, allowing them to track the vehicle back to the owner’s residence to be stolen later. In this case the owner of the vehicle discovered the tracker after his Apple device notified him of an AirTag in the area.
The theft remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Special Constable Allie Johnston at 519-824-1212, ext. 7457, email her at [email protected], leave an anonymous message for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.
The Guelph Police Service encourages owners to park their vehicles inside a locked garage whenever possible, or to block in higher-end vehicles to make them more difficult to steal. Residents are also urged to inspect their vehicles for trackers, especially if they receive an unknown AirTag notification.
Night in jail for missing court
A Guelph male spent the night behind bars after he was arrested Thursday for failing to attend court.
Officers were on patrol in the area of Dawson Road and Willow Road approximately 7:30 p.m. when they spotted a wanted male. A warrant had been taken out for his arrest after he missed a court date earlier this month for assault and other charges.
A 35-year-old Guelph male was arrested on the outstanding warrant and further charged with failing to appear in court. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
