The new book by Suzanne Collins takes us into the dark past of the president of Panem. In The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, we see the tyrannical President Snow of Panem return once again. However, this time he is here to tell his own story, helping us see him in a different light.
In this book, the great President Snow is rendered vulnerable and unprotected, with a tragic teenage love story of his own.
About The Book
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins is a prequel to the famous Hunger Games. It offers a lot of insight into the life of President Snow that we saw and grew to despise in the trilogy. Just like the previous books, this one too seems to be an engaging and exciting read that you will not be able to put down.
The story is fueled by artifice and duplicity. As with the Hunger Games trilogy, cold, relentless politics takes center stage. Humanity seems to have dwindled into dust, and callous mercenaries seem to be the heroes here.
And yet, in this bleak and oppressive world, there is a ray of hope from an unlikely friendship that is budding in the cruelest of hearts. What’s to see is if this is enough to save Coriolanus Snow?
Highlights Of The Book
One Chance To Prove!
Coriolanus Snow is an eighteen-year-old who is on the verge of losing all that he has been so used to having. On the brink of bankruptcy, he is now trying to win back the glory of his family name by mentoring the participants for the 10th Hunger Games. This is his one chance to prove himself in front of everybody and come out victorious. However, the odds are not exactly in his favor.
Survival is Dependant
Coriolanus is not very happy with the participant he has been chosen to mentor. A female from District 12 would certainly not have been his pick – had he been given the privilege to choose. However, the fact remains that they now depend on each other’s success for their own survival. And they must do everything they can to play their cards right.
Friendship Amidst Chaos
In the grim and gaudy events of the 10th Hunger Games, an unusual friendship begins to blossom. Coriolanus Snow finds himself growing feelings for the tribute who disgusted him. Lucy Gray Baird – the tribute from District 12 – seems to have thawed the Snow heart of Coriolanus. But this only seems to bring along more misfortune for both of them.
Lucy’s mentor finds himself robbed of the ability to make vicious yet critical political decisions. In fact, he realizes that his feelings for his mentee are now influencing many of his judgements. This does not bode well for either of them. If Coriolanus Snow wants to triumph, he will need to learn to ignore what his heart has been telling him all along.
But will he manage to make it out of the blinding storm he has thrown himself and Lucy into? Click on this link to buy the book and read the full story.
