Saturday Night Live is not airing a new episode on Oct. 17. NBC is instead re-airing the show’s Season 52 premiere from Sept. 26, hosted by New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, NBC and TVLine reported.
The question “is SNL new tonight” and Brunson’s name both trended in Canada on Saturday, according to Google Trends.
Brunson, the reigning NBA Finals MVP, was hosting for the first time, NBC said. The girl group KATSEYE was the musical guest and performed “Animal” and “Hootie Frutti” in the original broadcast, according to NBC. The rerun airs at 11:30 p.m. Eastern, 8:30 p.m. Pacific, on NBC and streams on Peacock, Yahoo reported.
The next new episode is on Halloween, Oct. 31, when Inde Navarrette, star of Obsession, makes her hosting debut with Gracie Abrams as musical guest, NBC and Yahoo reported.
Brunson led the Knicks to the 2026 NBA championship, and the team celebrated with a ceremony at New York City Hall in June. His SNL turn opened the show’s 52nd season.
Late-night TV and comedy have been in the spotlight in Canada this fall. Netflix released its documentary on Canadian comedian and former SNL cast member Norm Macdonald on Oct. 16, and fellow Canadian comic Nathan Fielder’s Elizabeth Holmes film has been drawing crowds, as we reported in our box office coverage.
