CHARLOTTETOWN – The Green Party of Prince Edward Island announced Friday that two candidates have been approved to seek the party’s leadership later this year.
Hannah Bell was elected as a Green member of the legislature in 2017, and was re-elected in 2019.
She has also held leadership roles in public administration, non-profit management and policy development, as well as serving as executive director of the P.E.I. Business Women’s Association.
Her challenger is Matthew MacFarlane, member of the legislature for Borden-Kinkora.
MacFarlane practised law for two decades and was also co-chairman of the South Shore Health and Wellness Centre, and president of the Atlantic branch of the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
Party members will elect a new leader at a leadership convention on June 7.
The governing Progressive Conservatives hold 19 seats in the 27-seat legislature, the Greens have three, as do the Liberals, and there are two vacancies.
