The vast majority of Ontario entered Step 2 of reopening on Wednesday, but Waterloo Region remains in Step 1 due to local COVID-19 trends.
Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, was recently asked whether there are concerns about locals hitting the road this weekend to partake in loosened restrictions in other communities.
“In general, for residents of Waterloo Region, I advise that residents do not travel outside of the region unless it’s essential.”
She then made a plea to residents to continue support to local businesses and our economy.
As Thursday is Canada Day, Dr. Wang reiterated the need to follow public health protocols.
She said she continues to recommend that people only have close contact with immediate household members, and if you’re going to gather with others – do it outside, wear a mask, and keep a distance.
