The Detroit Red Wings have been playing well to start the 2021-22 season, with five points through four games. They can thank the play of Tyler Bertuzzi for a large portion of that start, but they won’t have him in the lineup tonight because he refuses to get vaccinated, and therefore is unable to enter Canada.
That should be to Montreal’s benefit, but as long as their offence is limited to one goal or fewer per games, it won’t matter how many star players are barred from dressing for their opponents. Detroit has shown plenty of scoring depth throughout the lines and defence pairings, and won’t be completely neutered by their top scorer being absent.
The same should be true for Montreal given the offensive talent the team possesses, but so far they’ve been unable — and unwilling — to put it to effective use. At some point the players need to make the commitment to play a more determined game, and maybe now that they have an old nemesis in the Bell Centre looking to extend their 0-5 start they’ll decide to time to kick things into gear is tonight.
