What: Rally in support of Rajvinder Kaur and Randhir SinghWhen: Monday August 7th 2023 at 12:30pmWhere: In front of Immigration Minister, Marc Miller’s office, 3175 Saint-Jacques Street (Metro Lionel Groulx)Family members, friends and supporters will be rallying outside the Immigration Minister, Marc Miller’s offices to demand urgent action to stop the imminent deportation of Rajvinder Kaur and Randhir Singh, 70 and 79 years old. The action is taking place just five days before their scheduled deportation to India.Randhir Singh who already faced political violence, suffers from PTSD. If their deportation should proceed, Rajvinder Kaur and Randhir Singh would be returning back to India where the violence against Sikhs and other minorities is on the rise under the authoritarian leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his fascist Hindutva ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)Their humanitarian application is being processed, and was overwhelmingly supported by dozens of community members. Arrived in Canada in 2015, their refugee claim was unjustly refused by Canada stating that they could simply move to another state. However, this is not possible because before seeking asylum in Canada they have tried and were followed by the security police of the ruling party that came to power in 2014. In the past months their house was raided by the National Investigative Agency (NIA); going back to India holds risk to their lives. We call upon the Immigration Minister, Marc Miller, to grant Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) until their application for permanent residency on humanitarian and compassionate grounds is studied.Supporters are vowing to continue the fight to stop the deportation of Rajvinder Kaur and Randhir Singh and to demand status for them and all undocumented migrants. Status for all. Dignity for all.-30-Contact:
