Alex DeBrincat scored twice, Dylan Larkin had a goal and an assist in his season debut and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Ottawa Senators 5-3 on Tuesday night.
Viktor Arvidsson and Justin Faulk also scored for Detroit (1-2-0), which earned its first win of the season. John Gibson made 22 saves.
Tim Stutzle, Drake Batherson and William Eklund scored for Ottawa (2-1-0), which was playing the second night of a back-to-back. Samuel Ersson made 31 saves.
Stutzle opened the scoring 2:44 into the game, but DeBrincat tied it 32 seconds later and Larkin put Detroit ahead at 13:14 of the first. Arvidsson scored on the power play and Faulk added another goal early in the second to make it 4-1.
Batherson answered on an Ottawa power play at 6:08 of the second, and Eklund pulled the Senators within one at 10:30 of the third. DeBrincat sealed it with an empty-net, power-play goal at 19:10.
“In this league, no matter who you play, if you don’t show up right at the start, you aren’t going to win,” Senators captain Thomas Chabot said.
Senators coach Travis Green said his team “looked a little tired.” Stutzle has five points, three goals and two assists, over Ottawa’s back-to-back games.
