One Year After the Dismantling of the Al-Soumoud Popular Encampment: The struggle is intensifying against CDPQ’s investments in the genocide in Palestine
Date: Saturday, July 5, 2025, from 4:30 PM
Location: In front of CDPQ – 1,000 Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle, Tiohtià:ke/Montreal
On July 5, 2024, the Al-Soumoud popular encampment was dismantled by the SPVM and the City of Montreal. Set up in Square Victoria, the encampment called for the immediate divestment of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) from companies complicit in the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
One year later, the mobilization has only grown. A province-wide campaign was launched in Quebec under the slogan “Sortons la Caisse des crimes en Palestine” (“Let’s Get the Caisse Out of the Crimes in Palestine”), with multiple community and labor organizations adopting firm resolutions demanding CDPQ’s immediate divestment.
Just days ago, an official UN report confirmed what we have been denouncing for months: the CDPQ is among 48 companies identified as participating in the “economy of genocide.”
We, the Divest for Palestine collective, invite the media to attend this event. Speeches will begin at 4:30 PM, revisiting the trajectory of this campaign and revealing further details on CDPQ’s complicity, with contributions from collective spokespersons.
