The best-selling window insulation kits on Amazon.ca this week are Duck Brand’s rolled shrink-film kits, each showing more than 1,000 purchases in the past month, with 3M, Frost King and Duck’s patio-door kit close behind. All five kits below cost between about $13 and $36 as of Oct. 22, 2026.
Shrink-film kits work by trapping a layer of still air between a clear plastic sheet and the window glass. Natural Resources Canada’s Keeping the Heat In guide describes heat-shrink film with double-sided tape as an inexpensive, temporary, do-it-yourself interior storm window.
Every kit here goes up the same way: double-sided tape around the inside of the frame, film pressed onto the tape, then a hair dryer to shrink the plastic tight. Our step-by-step guide on how to insulate windows with shrink film covers the process, and our wider guide on how to draft-proof your home for winter covers doors, outlets and attics. Prices below were accurate as of Oct. 22, 2026, and may change.
Duck Brand rolled window insulation kit
This is the kit most Canadians are buying right now, and it suits anyone with several standard-size windows who wants to do the whole house in one weekend. The listing showed $20.81, a 4.4-star average from 5,727 ratings and more than 1,000 purchases in the past month.
It comes as two rolls of clear shrink film plus window tape, measuring 62 inches by 420 inches in total, and Duck says it fits up to 10 windows. The film is rolled rather than pre-cut, so there is no measuring: you stick it to the tape, cut it to size and move on. Duck lists scissors and a hair dryer as the only tools needed and says the kit works on painted or finished wood, aluminum and vinyl frames.
Reviewers said it was easy to use, kept winter drafts out and came with plenty of film. The most common complaint was the tape: several buyers said it was not sticky enough and made installation fiddly.

Duck MAX Strength window insulation kit
The MAX Strength version is for homes with pets, kids or windows that get bumped, since Duck says its film is puncture-resistant and twice as thick as its standard kits. The listing showed $34.19, a 4.3-star average from 2,293 ratings and more than 1,000 purchases in the past month.
Like the standard kit, it is a 62-inch by 420-inch roll that Duck says covers up to 10 windows, with tape included. It also installs with scissors and a hair dryer, and Duck says it removes easily at the end of the season.
Buyers said the thicker plastic kept cold air out and made a noticeable difference in warmth, and one said it also cut outside noise. One RV owner said the tape held well on aluminum frames. The main complaint was the same tape issue in reverse: a reviewer with painted frames said the adhesive would not stick, and others called installation a little finicky.

3M indoor window insulator kit for five windows
3M’s kit is the most-reviewed option in the category, with 18,294 ratings and a 4.0-star average, and it was on sale at $29.82, down 18 per cent from a listed price of $36.22. The listing showed more than 300 purchases in the past month.
3M says it fits five indoor windows of three feet by five feet and includes heat-shrink window film and Scotch-brand tape. The company says the film reduces condensation and frost buildup as well as heat loss.
Reviewers praised how cleanly it came off at the end of the season and said two kits were enough for a whole townhouse. One buyer said the tape was easy to cut and apply. The common gripe was the packaging: several people expected five separate sheets but received one large sheet of about five feet by 15 feet, and one said peeling the tape’s backing strip took patience.

Frost King V76H shrink window kit
The Frost King kit is the budget pick for one big window, a basement window or a small enclosed porch. It was listed at $13.41, with a 4.2-star average from 7,420 ratings and more than 500 purchases in the past month.
It is a single clear sheet measuring 84 inches by 110 inches, sold as one pack. Frost King lists insulation, sealing drafty windows and winter use as its recommended uses.
Buyers who use it every winter said it stopped cold drafts and kept the window clear, and a French-language reviewer said it held all year on a basement window. Complaints included cloudy film with creases, weak tape and a warning that it is hard to apply when it is below zero. One buyer said it barely covered one side of a sliding door, so measure first.

Duck MAX Strength kit for patio doors and large windows
Most standard kits are too narrow for a sliding patio door, and this two-pack is built for that job. It was listed at $35.22 with a 4.6-star average from 312 ratings, the highest rating in this guide, and more than 200 purchases in the past month.
The pack includes two rolls of shrink film, each 84 inches by 120 inches, and two 0.5-inch by 54-foot rolls of tape. Duck says it covers up to two extra-large or patio windows or doors, or four large four-foot by six-foot windows, and uses the same thicker MAX Strength film as the kit above.
Reviewers said it went up quickly, kept the cold out and was good value for a two-pack, and one said it helped lower a heating bill. The complaints were minor: a couple of buyers wished the film were thicker or slightly clearer.

XFasten clear window weather sealing tape
Not every drafty window needs a full sheet of film. This clear tape is for sealing gaps around a frame, a window that will stay shut all winter, or the space around an air conditioner. It was listed at $15.99 with a 4.2-star average from 10,998 ratings and more than 600 purchases in the past month.
The roll is two inches wide and 30 yards long. XFasten says the tape is transparent, weather-resistant, airtight and watertight, safe on wood and leaves no residue.
Buyers said it cut drafts around windows and air conditioners, and several liked that it is clear. The main complaints pulled in opposite directions: some said edges lifted in the wind or it was not sticky enough on cracks, while one buyer said it left residue when removed from a window air conditioner. For a removable seal, our guide on how to weatherstrip windows and doors covers other options.

Frequently asked questions
Do window insulation kits really lower heating bills?
They cut drafts and add a layer of still air over the glass, which reduces heat loss through older or single-pane windows. Natural Resources Canada describes heat-shrink film kits as an inexpensive, temporary interior storm window. Savings depend on the home, and buyers in this guide reported warmer rooms rather than exact dollar amounts.
Can you put up shrink film when it is cold outside?
The tape needs a clean, dry and reasonably warm surface to stick. Several reviewers said installation was harder in freezing weather, so it is best done on a mild day or with the room well heated before you start.
Does window shrink film damage paint?
Duck and 3M say their kits remove easily at the end of the season, and some reviewers said the tape came off cleanly. Others reported the tape would not hold on painted frames, so test a small strip first.
How we chose: we searched Amazon.ca on Oct. 22, 2026, for window insulation kits, picked the products with the most purchases in the past month and strong ratings from large numbers of buyers, and read recent Canadian customer reviews on each listing. We included one patio-door kit and one tape for windows that need a different fix. Homeowners looking for longer-term savings can also check our guide to home heating rebates open in Canada in 2026.
