Ottawa Senators forwards Thomas Chabot and Tim Stützle will donate $1,872 to the CHEO Foundation for every Senators win this season, the team announced Saturday.
The amount combines the players’ jersey numbers, 18 for Stützle and 72 for Chabot. The pair also invited fans to match their giving.
“It’s really exciting news,” Stützle said. “Chabs and me are going to donate every Sens win for a great cause.”
“And we want obviously, other people to join us as well, that’s what it’s all about,” he said.
Chabot said the pledge will run all season. “After every Sens win, we’ll be donating that,” he said. “Any type of donation makes a huge difference for the cause.”
The two were named ambassadors of CHEO’s Kids These Days campaign earlier in the week, according to the Senators’ announcement on NHL.com. Launched in August 2024, the campaign is CHEO’s largest ever and aims to remodel pediatric care, expand access and help children get care closer to home.
Fans can take part through sens1872.ca with a one-time gift of $18.72, a pledge of $18.72 for each Senators win this year, or a one-time gift of $1,872. Donors receive a limited-edition 18|72 hat for the $18.72 pledge, or two hats for the $1,872 gift.
Senators head coach Travis Green said any time players can team up to give back to the community on an important cause, it is a positive for the group. The campaign was also reported by CTV News Ottawa.
The Senators picked up a 4-1 win over the New Jersey Devils on Monday, with Stützle among the leaders, after the pledge was announced. Ottawa also lost 5-3 to the Detroit Red Wings on Oct. 7.
