Masks now mandatory in Canmore
Wearing a mask will be mandatory in public spaces in Canmore beginning at noon today.
A bylaw passed by council earlier this week mandates face coverings be worn on public transit, in public vehicles like taxis and shuttles, in public indoor spaces including malls, grocery stores, retail businesses and churches, as well as in Town of Canmore facilities.
Canmore’s bylaw follows similar masking rules in the Alberta mountain communities of Banff and Jasper.

Alberta’s unemployment rate drops, but Calgary’s remains high at 15.5%
Alberta’s unemployment rate fell by 2.7 percentage points in July — the first monthly decrease in the province since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The province’s unemployment rate now sits at 12.8 per cent attributing to the third largest drop across provinces in July according to Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey released Friday morning.
Despite Alberta’s steep decline in unemployment rate, Calgary now has the highest unemployment rate of the country’s major cities at 15.5 per cent. The ranks of the unemployed grew by more than 4,000 compared to Edmonton where unemployment dropped by 2,000.
