Kyle Scheurmann’s All That We Can Take: A Reckoning with the Loss of an Old-Growth Forest He Tried to Save

New Solo Exhibition | November 5–30, 2026

This November, Bau-Xi Gallery | Dufferin is proud to present All That We Can Take, a thoughtful and important exhibition by artist and activist Kyle Scheurmann. This new body of work combines painting and environmental activism to confront the consequences of resource extraction and the urgent need to protect Canada’s remaining ancient forests.

The show was inspired by Scheurmann’s return to Tree Farm Licence (TFL) 46 on Vancouver Island in April, where he discovered that an ancient forest he had worked to protect through landback blockades and legislative efforts had been logged for industrial resource extraction. This discovery became the starting point for a body of work shaped by grief, uncertainty, and a renewed sense of urgency.

The exhibition will be on display from November 5th to 30th at Bau-Xi Gallery | Dufferin in Toronto (1384 Dufferin Street). An opening reception will take place on Thursday, November 5th from 5:30 – 7:30 PM, with the artist in attendance. Along with this, there will be an artist talk on Saturday, November 28th at 1 PM where Kyle will elaborate on the experiences and materials that go into his paintings.
