Tijjani Noslin scored twice and Lazio beat 10-man Sassuolo 6-2 on Tuesday in Reggio nell’Emilia, a result that moved Lazio to the top of the Serie A table in ESPN’s standings.
Kenneth Taylor put Lazio ahead in the second minute after a video review confirmed his goal. Sassuolo levelled in the seventh minute when Lazio defender Josip Sutalo turned the ball into his own net, but the home side did not hold on for long.
Gustav Isaksen restored the lead in the 13th minute, set up by Mattia Zaccagni, and Romano Floriani Mussolini made it 3-1 in the 16th minute with a finish assisted by Taylor. That goal was also awarded after a video review.
Sassuolo’s night got harder in the 31st minute, when midfielder Kristian Thorstvedt was shown a red card. Sebastiano Esposito still pulled one back in the 43rd minute to make it 3-2, but Zaccagni headed in a cross from Isaksen in first-half stoppage time to restore Lazio’s two-goal cushion at the break.
Noslin then took over after the interval. He struck from outside the box in the 55th minute, assisted by Zaccagni, and added a second from distance in the 65th minute, set up by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, to complete the scoring.
Sky Sports and ESPN both list the final score as Sassuolo 2, Lazio 6. The match kicked off at 1:30 p.m. ET (11:30 a.m. MT).
Lazio’s record stands at eight wins and a draw from nine games, good for 25 points, according to ESPN’s standings. That is three points clear of Inter, who have played one game fewer and visit Venezia on Wednesday. Sassuolo are 2-2-5 on the season.
Lazio’s win was part of a busy Tuesday of Serie A football. Roma and Como also won, and Como’s run in Europe has been one of the stories of the season. Elsewhere on the continent, Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 in El Clasico on Sunday and Lugano routed Getafe 5-2 in the Conference League.
