Rodrigo Mora and Donyell Malen scored two minutes apart late in the second half Tuesday as Roma beat Cagliari 4-2 at the Stadio Olimpico, snapping a tense 2-2 deadlock.
Cagliari struck first. M’Bala Nzola converted a penalty in the 10th minute, sending his shot low into the bottom right corner. Roma needed only five minutes to respond. Emanuele Lulli headed in a cross from Nahuel Molina in the 15th minute, and Niccolo Pisilli put Roma in front in the 21st minute from the centre of the box, set up by Lulli.
The home side held that 2-1 lead for the next hour, but Cagliari came back late. Daniel Maldini, assisted by Adam Obert with a through ball, levelled the score in the 81st minute.
Roma answered almost immediately. Mora headed in a cross from Daniele Ghilardi in the 85th minute to make it 3-2, and Malen finished from very close range in the 87th minute to seal the win.
Sky Sports and ESPN both record the final score as Roma 4, Cagliari 2. The match kicked off at 3:45 p.m. ET (1:45 p.m. MT).
Roma’s record is now six wins and three draws from nine games, according to ESPN’s standings, for 21 points. Cagliari are 4-1-4 on the season.
Roma’s victory came on the same day as Lazio’s 6-2 win over 10-man Sassuolo, which took Lazio to the top of the table ahead of the capital rivals. Across Europe this week, Kylian Mbappe’s double won El Clasico for Real Madrid, and Como stunned Manchester United in the Champions League.
