Devon Levi made 20 saves in his return from injury, Leon Draisaitl scored twice and Connor McDavid had three assists as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 on Saturday night in Edmonton, The Canadian Press reported.
Mattias Ekholm and Jason Dickinson also scored for the Oilers (12-3-3), who ended a two-game losing streak. Max Sasson and Brock Boeser scored for Vancouver (3-15-1), which has lost five straight and 15 of its last 16.
Levi, 24, had missed seven games with a lower-body injury and improved to 7-1-0. Edmonton had been down to fourth-string goalie Matt Tomkins, with an emergency backup dressed, in a 5-4 loss to Anaheim on Thursday, with Tristan Jarry ill and Frederik Andersen also hurt. Jarry returned Saturday as Levi’s backup.
“Love it, man. So it was a fun game,” Levi said of the tight third period.
McDavid’s streak
McDavid has a point and an assist in all 18 of Edmonton’s games this season. The assist streak matches Adam Oates for the second-longest in NHL history, behind only Wayne Gretzky’s 23 games in 1990-91, according to The Canadian Press. He is the sixth player in league history to open a season with an 18-game point streak, and leads the NHL with 47 points, 10 goals and 37 assists.
Draisaitl has 34 points and Evan Bouchard 31, and both have points in 16 of 18 games.
Forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins left early in the second period after being hit in the face by a puck shot by teammate Ryan Shea and did not return. The team did not give an update on his condition.
The Oilers are 10-0-2 this season when they score first.
