McLaren is putting five of its Formula One cars up for private sale, including a 2023 car that Hollywood actor Brad Pitt drove in a private test connected to his film F1, the team said Sunday, Reuters reported.
The fully working cars, all driven by world champions, will be sold individually through high-end dealer Tom Hartley Jr. and are expected to raise tens of millions of dollars, according to Reuters. McLaren’s team will prepare the cars for their new owners.
“These cars were built to be driven and raced, and we want to see them being used and enjoyed,” McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said in a statement.
Pitt drove the 2023 car at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, in June 2025, as part of his work on F1, and reportedly reached 317 km/h (197 mph), Reuters said. It is the most modern Formula One car McLaren has offered to a private buyer, according to the report. Lando Norris raced the same car in the 2023 season.
The other cars in the sale include two 1991 MP4/6A cars with Honda V12 engines that were raced by Gerhard Berger and tested by Ayrton Senna during Senna’s championship season. One finished second in a McLaren one-two at the San Marino Grand Prix and the other was second at the British Grand Prix, Reuters reported.
Also for sale is a 2012 MP4/27A raced by 2009 world champion Jenson Button and tested by Lewis Hamilton, and the 2021 MCL35M that took reigning champion Norris to podiums at Imola, Monaco and Monza, according to Reuters.
“These five cars will be offered individually and there is no time pressure whatsoever,” Hartley said, according to Reuters.
No prices were given. Estimates range from five million pounds (about $6.7 million US) to as much as 10 million pounds per car, Reuters reported. For comparison, a McLaren MP4-25A that Hamilton drove to victory in Turkey in 2010 sold for 4.8 million pounds in 2021, and a race-winning 2001 Ferrari driven by Michael Schumacher fetched $7.5 million US at auction in New York in 2017.
Hartley previously handled the sale of former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone’s car collection and 20 road cars that belonged to the late McLaren co-owner Mansour Ojjeh, according to Reuters. The sale was also reported by Gulf News and other motorsport outlets.
Pitt, 62, starred as veteran driver Sonny Hayes in F1, which was filmed in part during real Grand Prix weekends. The sale helped push his name to more than 5,000 Google searches in Canada over the past day, according to Google Trends.
