HALIFAX – One person is missing and three people are in hospital after an 18-metre fishing vessel capsized near Halifax on Thursday.
Lt.-Cmdr. Len Hickey, of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, says an emergency beacon was picked up around 10 p.m., originating about 18 kilometres southeast of Sambro, N.S.
The Canadian Coast Guard vessels Hare Bay and Sir William Alexander were dispatched to the scene along with a Cormorant helicopter and a Hercules plane.
Hickey says the Hare Bay rescued three of the fishers in high swells and low visibility.
He says two fishers were conscious and one was unconscious and all were taken ashore and transferred to hospital. He did not have an update on their condition.
Hickey says the Cormorant helicopter has located a life raft and that search and rescue technicians are at the scene today looking for the fourth fisher.
