Environment Canada has an orange snowfall warning in effect for Pangnirtung, Nunavut, where 30 to 40 centimetres of snow is expected by the time it ends Sunday afternoon.
“Snow, at times heavy, continues in Pangnirtung,” the weather office said. Heavy snow will continue today and tonight and into Sunday. Visibility will likely be reduced at times.
Environment Canada issues snowfall warnings when significant impacts are expected because of snow accumulations. It advised people to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions and to take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.
Elsewhere in the North, a blizzard warning was in effect today for the Dempster Highway area in the Yukon and Northwest Territories, and a wind warning for Salluit, Que., in Nunavik. Pangnirtung, on Baffin Island, also saw heavy snow in late October, which we reported in Blizzard warning for Sanirajak, heavy snow for Pangnirtung.
