The Working Class: Are we just a bunch of working bees?
Worker Bees that’s what we are
educated to do, what the man says.
Our educationis limited to doing that job
and never looking at something critically again.
Life of a working person in Canada seems
just a part of a greater active routine.
Work, work, work and go home if we can,
while statistics tell us we will do it all again.
What’s my life become, how about yours?
Satisfied at all you must do, do, do?
Apprentice, journeyman, hydro pro too,
office working all day with figures in mind.
Living for the weekend, maybe OK for you?
But I have an ambition and a legacy too.
What is this life all about, my friends?
Making money for others isn’t my plan.
Don’t you want to achieve and make a difference too?
Lay out a legacy of goodness, charity and friendship as well.
Those who pay you go on vacations and purchase as consumers do,
while you struggle to pay the bills and save a few cents too.
No matter where you live, work and attempt to better yourself,
the working person cannot thrive in a land of competition.
The Media tells us of a myth laid long ago,
that everyone can one day become a wealthy blowhard.
Lotteries promise a chance to change our lives
with casinos, tickets and digital reach.
Out goes your hard-earned money to an offshore Corp
while you struggle to pay the rent and feed the family in need.
On the evolutionary scales, a worker is nearly last,
with 2-3 other levels of oppressive competitive folk above us.
We seem to exist to work and nothing else,
unless you chance upon some cash that will certainly not last.
Where is the pride in working all day for years to come?
We build the future, but what’s in it for you and me?
Some scraps off the table of a Westin or Carnegie!
Makes you mad, does it not, my friends?
Or will you be like all other Canadians, “at sleep once again”?
The new name for Canada is “Sleep Country”.
When we should be fighting for our fellow workers to achieve,
we are asleep at the switch and always working without complaint.
Everyone else seems to be marching and protesting something,
so how about a day of protest against our failed economy?
Over a million Canadians are unemployed, with more working part-time only,
That’s 2-3 jobs to make a proper wage in this land of opportunity(?).
Socialists, Conservatives, Greens and Liberals too
always miss a chance to improve our lot.
Satisfactory certainly is not what we should approve,
but demand Respect and Improvements, and excellence too.
Better educational systems, well-thought-out plans,
if communists in China can do it, so can Canadians too.
Governments and Businesses working in conjunction for once,
bettering the lives of the “Working Class” we all belong to.
