Toyota Canada is recalling about 24,454 Sienna Hybrid minivans from the 2022 to 2026 model years because the mechanisms that lock the second-row seat recliners may disengage in a crash, Transport Canada said.
The department said the recliner locks can release when the seatbelt pretensioners activate, which could let the seatbacks move and increase the risk of injury. Transport Canada published the notice (recall number 2026505) on Oct. 20, 2026, and updated it on Oct. 23, as reported by CP24 and BNN Bloomberg.
Toyota is advising owners not to carry passengers in the second-row seats until the repair is done. Owners will receive a notice by mail and should take the vehicle to a Toyota dealership.
Dealers will update the software in the supplemental restraint system electronic control unit, which controls the seatbelt pretensioners.
Owners can check whether a vehicle is affected by entering its vehicle identification number on Toyota Canada’s recall lookup page or by calling Toyota at 1-888-869-6828. Full details are posted on the federal Recalls and Safety Alerts site.
Seat-related problems have prompted several recent vehicle recalls in Canada. Ford recently recalled 2025-26 F-150 trucks over loose driver seat bolts, and Volvo recalled the EX30 over loose head restraint cushions. Hyundai and Genesis also issued a recall over a seat switch fire risk.
