Hyundai is recalling certain Genesis and Genesis G80 sedans in Canada because a power seat switch can stick and cause a fire, even when the vehicle is parked and turned off, according to Transport Canada.
The recall, numbered 2026489 and posted on the federal recalls site on Oct. 8, 2026, covers 2015 and 2016 Hyundai Genesis models and 2017 to 2020 Genesis G80 models. The notice does not say how many vehicles in Canada are affected.
Under certain conditions, the control switch for the driver or front passenger power seat motor could become stuck, Transport Canada said. A stuck switch can leave the motor running, which can cause it to overheat and create a fire risk.
The fix is not ready. The notice says corrective action is still under development. Until repairs are available, Hyundai is advising owners to park their vehicles outdoors and away from other vehicles and structures.
Hyundai will notify owners by mail. Owners can check whether a vehicle is included by searching its vehicle identification number on the Transport Canada recalls database or by contacting a Hyundai or Genesis dealer. The page was last updated Oct. 16.
The recall follows other fire-related notices this month, including Volkswagen’s recall of ID.4 vehicles over battery fire risk and a Mercedes-Benz recall of S-Class sedans over a brake hose leak.
