WINNIPEG: Community advance voting locations open in all 15 Winnipeg council wards on Monday, giving residents four days to vote close to home before advance polls close on Oct. 23, according to the City of Winnipeg.
Election day for mayor, councillor and school trustee is Wednesday, Oct. 28, the city says on its election pages. Polls open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day, and results are to be posted on the city’s election website shortly after 8 p.m.
Where and when to vote early
Advance voting began Oct. 5 at City Hall, in the Council Building at 510 Main St., which is open on weekdays through Oct. 23 (excluding Thanksgiving), the city says in a news release dated Oct. 2.
The city’s schedule has since moved through several city-wide sites. Canada Life Centre hosted voting Oct. 6 to 8, Kildonan Place, Garden City Shopping Centre and the IKEA on Sterling Lyon Parkway followed Oct. 9 to 11, and Grant Park Shopping Centre, CF Polo Park and St. Vital Centre run Oct. 16 to 18. That last set of sites closes today.
The community advance locations in each of the 15 wards run Oct. 19 to 22. The city says that is four days, up from three in recent elections. City-wide locations serve voters regardless of where they live, the city says, and voters can search their address on the city’s voter app to find a nearby site. Election staff also visit hospitals, care homes and post-secondary schools during the advance period.
Advance voting closes Oct. 23 at 4 p.m., the city says. Hours differ by location, so voters should check the site they plan to use. In all, the city lists 23 public advance voting locations.
Who can vote and what to bring
To vote for mayor and councillor, a person must be a Canadian citizen, be at least 18 on Oct. 28, and have been a resident or property owner in Winnipeg since April 28, 2026, according to the city. School trustee voting also requires living in the relevant school division ward on Oct. 28.
Voters should bring their voter’s notice if they have received one. The city says they also need either one government-issued piece of photo identification showing their name and current address, such as a driver’s licence, or two authorized documents that together show their name, with at least one showing their current address.
Voting by mail
Voters who cannot attend a polling place can apply for a sealed envelope ballot until Oct. 25 at 4:30 p.m., the city says. Completed ballots must reach the Susan A. Thompson Building at 510 Main St. by Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. The city says mailed ballots cannot be dropped off at voting locations, so anyone relying on this option should allow time for delivery.
What is on the ballot
The city says the ballot includes 12 mayoral candidates, 54 councillor candidates and more than 90 school trustee candidates. CTV News Winnipeg reported on Oct. 2 that advance voting would start the following Monday, ahead of the Oct. 28 vote.
Some details were not available in the city pages reviewed for this report, including daily opening hours at each advance site and election day polling locations. The city directs voters to winnipeg.ca/election2026 or 311 for those details.
