Zoe Peled [Vancouver, BC], has advanced to the quarter-final round in the International, annual ‘Inked Cover Girl’ contest. Thousands of women contend for the coveted spot every year, but Peled has a different approach: if she wins the cover contest, she is giving away the entire $25,000 prize.
Peled has pledged to split the amount between two organizations, Home for Hooves Farm Animal Sanctuary, and Hugabull Rescue and Advocacy Society.
Home for Hooves, located in Duncan BC, made headlines at the end of 2021 when they announced they were taking in more than 100 additional animals into their care after another local sanctuary closed. Currently located on less than 5 acres, HFH is seeking out new acreage for their residents to build a new sanctuary, which will include a specialized medical unit. Home for Hooves offers a forever, safe home for farm animal rescues who have been abandoned, abused, or neglected, cares for animals with extreme medical needs or disabilities, and facilitates community engagement and outreach.
Huggable Rescue and Advocacy Society is completely volunteer-run and works to shift the stereotypes about bully breed dogs. They provide spay/neuter support for those who may encounter barriers when accessing medical care for companion animals, facilitate the Compassion Care program [specialized support for dogs at the palliative stage in their lives], run community classes for dogs navigating past traumas, and facilitate on-going rescue, fostering, and adoption.
Voting in the current round continues through Thursday, March 3. It narrows down each group of women, who then advance to the final round. Voting is facilitated through Peled’s contest page: https://cover.inkedmag.com/2022/zoe-peled
