The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Oct. 16 that White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with 2 Egg Yolks is being recalled nationally because it contains peanut that is not declared on the label.
The recalled product comes in a 600-gram package of four 150-gram mooncakes, with the UPC 4 897002 743648 and a best before date of 2026-NO-30, according to the recall notice on the Government of Canada Recalls and Safety Alerts site. The label carries Chinese characters only and no English brand name.
The notice said the product was distributed nationally and online. It did not name specific retailers.
The CFIA said one reaction has been reported. The recall is classed as Class 1 and was triggered by a consumer complaint. The agency said recalled products with undeclared peanut may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in people with a peanut allergy or sensitivity.
People with a peanut allergy should not eat the mooncakes, the agency said. Anyone who has them should not serve, use, sell or distribute them, and should throw them out or return them to the store where they were bought.
The CFIA said it is investigating and may recall other products. It is also verifying that industry removes the product from the marketplace.
The recalling firm is New Evergrow Global Trading Inc. Public enquiries can go to the CFIA at 1-613-773-2342 or [email protected]. The recall ID is RA-82799.
Peanut was also the undeclared allergen in the recent recall of Nora’s mint chip dessert, and Kevin’s turkey gravy was recalled over undeclared mustard.
