Today’s ‘Wordle’ Word Of The Day #335 Answer And Hint: Friday, May 20th - Forbes

Thank god it’s Friday at last! It’s been a crazy week and I, for one, am ready for a crazy weekend.

Actually, it’s been a pretty great week in many ways. I’m feeling more upbeat than I have in a long time, which I blame mostly on the combination of lots and lots of exercise and much warmer, sunnier days. Nothing like summer to end your seasonal depression!

Wordle remains the hot-ticket viral puzzle game of the year and with just a month left before the game’s 1-year anniversary, things are just getting started.

Today’s word was surprisingly tricky, though a great deal depends on your first couple guesses and which letters you eliminate and which you get correct. There are man potential answers for this one, so tread carefully.

First, a hint. In 2014, many game journalists wrote that this demographic of people was “over.”

So yeah. I feel pretty lame. I feel pretty bad about this one. I should have known! I am a gamer! I write about friggin’ video games for a living!

The problem is, there are just so many words structured around _A_ER. Think about it. There’s faker and maker and paper and laker and razer and taper and waver and the list goes on and on and on. I guessed many of these words.

As you can see, many of these were my guesses. I probably should have stopped guessing this way and guessed something that didn’t involve those specific letters just to rule other letters out more quickly.

My first guess, Wordle Bot gave its signature “solid choice” award to (thank you, I know, I am a solid chooser). Typically bread will narrow options down to 138 but this time it narrowed solutions to just 64.

Apparently lathe would have worked better for my second guess, but cares actually narrowed my possible solutions down to 22. Taper narrowed things down to 10, which is another “solid choice” (yeah baby!) but from here things went south.

I get no credit for razer since it simply narrows 10 down to 9. I should have chosen gleam at this point. Wordle Bot notes that from here I’ll need luck, and boy did I.

Laker cut the solutions down to just six but again, gleam would have been better. Yes, thank you Wordle Bot, we know.

Fortunately, when I thought of gamer I was 99% sure it was going to be the correct answer. I felt it in my bones. In my gut. In my heart of hearts. And sure enough, it was correct. “Lucky guess, moron,” Wordle Bot chided me, or something to that effect. After all, there were several possible words remaining:
