Team BC opened the Tim Hortons Canadian Brier with a win Saturday.
The team, consisting of Vernon’s Jim Cotter, Kelowna’s Andrew Nerpin and Rick Sawatsky and Saskatoon’s Steve Laycock beat the Northwest Territories 6-4.
Team BC is currently sitting at 1-0 and will face Ontario Sunday morning.

Jim Cotter begins his Brier run today in Ontario.
The Vernon athlete is a multi-time BC curling champion, but has yet to win the Canadian Men’s Curling title.
He is hoping to change that in Tim Hortons Brier in Kingston this year.
Cotter, along with the other members of Team BC Steve Laycock of Saskatoon and Kelowna’s Andrew Nerpin and Rick Sawatsky will take on Jamie Koe of the Northwest Territories in their opening match today.
Kevin Koe of Calgary is the defending champ and a four-time Brier winner.
Eight teams will advance to the championship round starting Thursday at Leon’s Centre. The top four teams will qualify for the Page Playoffs starting March 7 with the semifinals and finals set for March 8.
The winners will represent Canada at the world men’s curling championship in Glasgow, Scotland March 28 to April 5.
