Parc-Extension tenants and community groups will be gathering for a rally and vigil to denounce the death of Manjeet Singh, an unhoused migrant tenant. The action is taking place ahead of the Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension borough council meeting.
On January 16, 2026, Manjeet Singh died on the streets of Parc-Extension at the age of 42. At the time, he had lost his shared accommodation in a context where there are no warming centers or shelters in the neighbourhood. His case is far from an isolated one- facing abusive rent hikes and increasing evictions, many migrant tenants in Parc-Extension are finding themselves with little choice but to accept exploitative room-sharing situations. With Bill C-12 becoming law this past month, a growing number of migrant tenants could also find themselves undocumented and in increasingly precarious situations.
Tenants and community groups are demanding homelessness resources and social housing projects that are adapted to the needs of the neighborhood. They are also calling for a full and inclusive regularization program, so that migrant tenants can live in dignity.
