The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled a 200-gram package of Snow Crab Flavoured Surimi Stick sold in British Columbia because the product contains egg and soy that are not declared on the label.
The recall, posted Oct. 30 on the Government of Canada Recalls and Safety Alerts site, names Ecological Park Agriculture Inc. as the recalling firm. The agency classified it as a Class 1 recall, its most serious category.
The product carries no brand name and is labelled in Chinese characters only. It has the UPC 6 926104 942661 and the codes 20260802, 20270201 and J016 D02. The agency did not say which code is a best-before date and which is a lot code, so anyone with the product should check all three.
The agency said the recalled product was distributed in British Columbia only. It said the recall was triggered by CFIA test results.
No reactions linked to the product have been reported, the agency said. Eating it could cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in people with an egg or soy allergy or sensitivity.
The CFIA said people who are allergic to egg or soy should not eat the recalled product. It said no one should serve, use, sell or distribute it, and that it should be thrown out or returned to the store where it was bought.
The agency said a food safety investigation is under way that may lead to the recall of other products. Questions can be directed to the CFIA at 1-613-773-2342 or [email protected].
