Carter Yakemchuk scored on the power play with 6:59 left in the third period and the Ottawa Senators beat the winless Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 on Oct. 8, 2026, at Canadian Tire Centre.
The win lifted Ottawa to 3-1-0 in its first home game of the season, while Philadelphia fell to 0-3-2 after five games, according to ESPN. Linus Ullmark made 29 saves for the Senators.
Nick Cousins gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. Matvei Michkov tied it for the Flyers with a power-play goal at 7:46 of the second, CBS Philadelphia reported.
The game stayed 1-1 until Yakemchuk, a young defenceman drafted seventh overall by Ottawa in 2024, broke the tie with the man advantage midway through the third. Both of the game’s final two goals came on power plays.
Joseph Woll stopped 24 shots for Philadelphia, which has yet to win this season. Michael Bunting made his Flyers debut two days after signing with the team.
Ottawa defenceman Hoyt Stanley also made his NHL debut. The crowd was 17,501, according to ESPN.
The Senators’ only loss so far was a 5-3 defeat to the Detroit Red Wings. Ottawa leads the season series with Philadelphia 1-0, and the teams meet again on Oct. 17 and Nov. 19.
The Senators host the Nashville Predators on Saturday, Oct. 10. The Flyers visit the Boston Bruins the same day as they try for their first win.
